Posterous

To date I’ve been using Posterous as the blogging platform for my first contribution to the social media world. I like its simplicity, but with simplicity comes limitation; hence my move to WordPress.

I decided to host my own instance of WordPress on my virtual private server since it will provide me with more flexibility (and headaches) than on a hosted service. I’m still very much getting to grips with it; so far so good in spite of some teething problems.

I am looking forward to being able to concentrate on content rather than the technical side!

Themes

Not sure about this theme. Having a few issues finding plugins and themes that work properly with WordPress 2.7. This will improve over time, I’m sure.

I think I have some other configuration issues that I need to investigate:

• .htaccess permissions
• database permissions
• plugin warning messages

Sounds like an RTFM moment to me. It will have to wait until this evening as I have to be at work in the morning because we’re moving offices.

Day 1

So.

I’ve installed WordPress 2.7.

I’ve installed a theme.

I’ve installed a plugin.

I’ve started to add pages and configure.

So far so good, and more to follow (hopefully).
